India: ERW patra pipe prices decline w-o-w across key regions

  • Lower raw material costs, weak demand weighed on weekly pipe prices
  • Late-week buying recovery supported sharp d-o-d price increases

ERW patra pipe prices (41-60 mm OD) declined w-o-w across key regions in the week ended 25 September 2026, weighed down by lower raw material costs and subdued buying activity. Buyers largely restricted purchases to immediate requirements, while the festive slowdown further reduced trading activity during the week.

However, on a d-o-d basis, prices rose sharply across the two regions. In Raipur, prices edged up by INR 600/t d-o-d to INR 49,300/t exw on 25 September compared with INR 48,700/t exw on 24 September. Similarly, prices in Mandi Gobindgarh increased by INR 1,100/t d-o-d to around INR 52,500/t exw on 25 September from INR 51,400/t exw a day earlier. Listed prices are ex-works (exw) and exclude 18% GST. The late-week recovery, however, was not sufficient to offset the earlier declines, leaving weekly prices lower than the previous week.

Weekly price trends

Raipur: ERW patra pipe prices in Raipur fell by INR 900/t w-o-w to INR 49,300/t exw on 25 September from INR 50,200/t a week earlier, weighed down by lower raw material costs coupled with weak demand conditions. Manufacturers reported limited enquiries and subdued buying activity during most of the week, while the festive-related slowdown further weighed on fresh trading activity. However, towards the end of the week, prices rose d-o-d as manufacturers revised offers higher following a slight increase in raw material prices and some improvement in buying activity.

A Raipur-based manufacturer stated, “Trading activity remained subdued through most of the week, with fresh enquiries limited and buyers largely staying away from fresh bookings. Moreover, the festive slowdown further affected market activity and kept overall trading volumes low.”

Mandi Gobindgarh: ERW patra pipe prices decreased by INR 1,200/t w-o-w to INR 52,500/t exw on 25 September, compared with INR 53,700/t a week ago. The decline was primarily driven by weak demand, as buyers remained cautious at elevated price levels and largely restricted purchases to immediate requirements, keeping trading activity subdued during most of the week.

A Mandi-based manufacturer stated, “buyers had adopted a wait-and-watch approach, with many expecting prices to soften further. Buyers were therefore holding back on inventory replenishment and waiting for clearer signs of price stability before making fresh purchases.”

However, market activity improved towards the end of the week. Higher raw material prices provided support to finished pipe prices, while buying also picked up as some buyers stepped up purchases to meet their requirements. As a result, prices recovered sharply from the week’s lower levels, although the overall weekly price remained below the previous week’s level.

Raw material prices

HR strip (patra): HR strip (patra) prices in Raipur fell by INR 700/t w-o-w to INR 48,600/t exw on 25 September from INR 49,300/t a week earlier. Similarly, prices in Mandi Gobindgarh decreased by INR 1,200/t w-o-w to INR 51,500/t exw on 25 September from INR 52,700/t a week earlier.

Billet: Billet prices in Raipur fell by INR 650/t w-o-w to INR 43,950/t exw on 25 September from INR 44,600/t a week earlier. Meanwhile, billet prices in Mandi Gobindgarh declined by INR 1,000/t w-o-w to INR 47,000/t DAP on 25 September from INR 48,000/t on 18 September.

Outlook

ERW patra pipe prices are likely to remain firm in the coming days, supported by the recovery in HR strip and billet prices and improved buying activity towards the end of the week. The recent price increase may encourage manufacturers to hold offers at higher levels, while a further pickup in buying activity could provide additional support. However, sustained price gains will depend on continued improvement in buying activity and further support from HR strip and billet prices.
