India’s Customs has recently released non-ferrous (copper) recyclable commodity export and import figures for October 2022. Exports jumped 111% over the previous month, while imports fell by 14% m-o-m.
In October, India’s copper exports stood at 25,684 t including ores, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products, up 111% m-o-m from 12,190 t in September.
On the other hand, imports including, ores, scrap, semi-finished, finished long and finished flat products, were recorded at 185,264 t, down 14% m-o-m as against 215,214 t in September.
Break-up of exports
Copper ores exports were the highest at 16,712 t, followed by semi finish at 3,217 t (down 55%), and finished long at 2,994 t, rise 86% on the month.
On a yearly basis, semi finished product volume was recorded at 53,117 t in Jan-Oct’22, a fall of 60% as against 135,159 t in Jan-Oct’21, followed by ores which was down 26.6% y-o-y and recorded at 30,475 t in Jan-Oct’22.
The finish flat export volume was recorded at 23,895 t in Jan-Oct’22, a rise of 48.9% as against 16,051 in same period last year, wherein copper scrap was at 13,812 t in jan-oct’22, a rise of 32% and finish long was up by 19.9% at 16,677 t.
Export destinations-country wise
In october, China remained the most-preferred export destination for the India, with total shipments at 19,986 t, up 168%.Imports by Saudi Arabia stood at 2,439 t, jump by 198%, while USA sourced 856 t. Shipments to UAE were recorded at 355 t.
Ona y-o-y basis the exported volume to China was recorded at 77,430 in Jan-Oct’22, a fall of 51% as against 159,343 t in Jan-Oct’21, followed by USA at 11,623 t in Jan-oct’22, a jump of 111% as against 5,509 t in the same period last year.
UAE volumes were at 3,680 t in Jan-Oct’22, a rise of 10% y-o-y as compared to 3,346 t in Jan-Oct’21.
