Monthly Arrival at Ports:
The growth in year-to date coal imports at ports were aided by a significant rise in monthly arrivals, which had hit the highest total for the current fiscal in Oct’18.
Imports in Oct’18 were marked 32% higher on the month at 14.87 MnT, reversing the declining trend seen in the past 4-months.
Amid the free fall in Indonesian and South African coal prices, a drastic surge in non-coking coal imports were seen during Oct’18, which was also vindicated in IPA’s data.
Import of thermal and steam coal at major ports had increased to 35% M-o-M to 9.663 MnT in Oct’18. Shipments during the month were highest for the FY19.
Coking and other coal shipments had also recorded significant gains on the month, while crossing the 5 MnT mark for the first time in FY19. Imports had increased 26% M-o-M to 5.207 MnT in Oct’18.
Paradip, followed by Ennore, Kolkata, Vizag and V.O Chidambaranar ports were the major preferred port for the monthly imports in Oct’18.
