India: Coal stockpiles at 57 power plants at ‘critical’ to ‘supercritical’ levels

Amid the severe coal supply crunch at India’s power plants, coal stockpiles at 57 plants, which represent about 21% of the country’s total power generation capacity, have fallen to “critical” or “supercritical” levels due to rising power demand. As per Central Electricity Authority (CEA), five power plants are currently running on daily supplies with zero stockpiles at warehouses, six plants have stockpiles that would last just one day, while several other plants have four-five days’ stockpiles left.
