The Ministry of Coal (MoC) has put up a final list of 88 blocks which would be sold under the third tranche of auctions envisaged for commercial coal mining at a launch event held today.
It was earlier informed that the list would contain 40 new coal blocks along with the 48 which went unsold in the second tranche.
The offered blocks are spread across 10 states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Telangana and West Bengal which are making entry for the first time in these auctions.
Interestingly, Namchik Namphuk is the sole block put on sale from Arunachal Pradesh, which was previously held under the custodian of Coal India Ltd.
Also, it is worth noting that the ministry had earmarked coal blocks from West Bengal in the provisional list for the second tranche of auctions, but it failed to make the final cut.
Out of the total 88 blocks, 31 are partially explored, while the remaining 57 are fully explored.
Timeline for tender process
Post-intimation, registration for the sales process has commenced which would last till 7 Dec’21. Meanwhile, pre-bid meeting, response to bidders’ queries and request for site visit would be entertained.
Due date for online as well as offline bid submission is 14 Dec’21. These bids would then be examined and thereafter financial biding would take place in the first week of Jan’22.
Finally, the preferred bidder for the coal blocks would be announced by the Nominated Authority on 25 Jan’22.
