India: Coal imports by cement sector drop 52% on quarter in Jul-Sept’21

Amid the sharp rise in thermal coal and pet coke prices, coal imports by India’s cement producers fell sharply by 52%, q-o-q, to 2.9 mn t during Jul-Sep’21. Imports from Australia fell by 80% during the period, followed by a drop of 75% and 59% in imports from Indonesia and the US, respectively. Imports from Mozambique, however, increased by 69%.
