Coal India, a largest coal producer in the country, has received its first order to import 0.5 MnT of coal in current fiscal year, as per the parliament’s information.
In current fiscal, CIL has received its 1st order by a company to import coal and supply as per their required quantity of 0.5 MnT. It is anticipated that the company will complete their supply target till Q4 FY15. The government has placed CIL in a process to import coal from supply agency (PSU) and provide to the country’s required power plants.
“Under the provisions of new Fuel Supply Agreements, according to the Presidential Directives issued to CIL, option is given to the power utility sector to decide their annual supply source for imported coal through CIL,” said by an authority.
Currently, India’s total demand of coal from power sectors has been assessed at about 551.60 MnT in FY15. Out of its total requirement, the government has planned to supply about 466.89 MnT from domestic sources, which shown a gap of 84.71 MnT that’s predicted to be fulfill through coal imports.
