India: Chrome Ore Production Stable in June’19

Odisha contributes almost entirely towards chrome ore production in India. Chrome Ore Production in Jun’19 was noted to be 367,133MT. It is marginally low than the previous month’s production by 4%.

Production level by Captive miners in Jun’19 remained stable as compared to the previous month. Balasore Alloys contributed the highest amount in the production of Chrome Ore, amongst the Captive mines in India. The production went down by 14% in June’19 for Balasore alloys on M-o-M basis. Meanwhile Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) decreased their production by significant levels. However, Ferro Alloys Corporation Limited(FACOR) did not produce any Chrome Ore in June’19.

Production levels by Merchant miners were stable with a marginal increase of 2% M-o-M in June’19. Misrilall Mines and TATA Steel in together contributed to approximately 66% of the total Chrome Ore Production by India in June’19. Misrilall Mines increased its production levels significantly by 33% from May’19 to 95,125 MT in June’19. Production for TATA Steel stood at 146,749MT which was significantly down by 15%.

Misrilall Mines and TATA Steel, however, remained the largest miners in Jun’19. Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Limited (IMFA) remained the third-largest merchant Miner with 64,834MT production in June’19. Meanwhile, production cuts in OMC were observed by 46%. However, B.C. Mohanty & Sons increased their production levels by 36%.

Total Production by Captive miners remained at 19,757MT in June’19, which is almost half as compared to previous month production. Production levels for Merchant miners are at 347,376MT.
