India: Chrome ore dispatches surge 26% m-o-m in May’26

  • Higher ferro chrome prices lift dispatches
  • Vedanta FACOR posts highest dispatch growth in May

India’s chrome ore dispatches rose 26% m-o-m to 350,751 t in May 2026 from 278,993 t in April, driven by an INR 1,800/t ($19/t) m-o-m uptick in ferro chrome prices, boosting market confidence. Along with it, chrome ore production also went up by 45% m-o-m to 0.42 mnt. Overall higher ferro chrome margins, consistent operating costs, and increased chrome ore output aided chrome ore dispatches, particularly from Vedanta FACOR.

In May, FACOR recorded the highest increase in chrome ore dispatches, up 47% m-o-m to 45,039 t, followed by IMFA, whose dispatches rose 37% to 95,511 t. OMC’s dispatches increased 24% m-o-m to 162,093 t, while Tata Steel reported a modest 2% rise to 27,321 t.
