Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) may have a review over the industrial power tariff on 12th June, SteelMint learned from the sources. CSEB has kept the domestic electricity prices firm in the previous month and has indicated that the industrial tariff will have an increase of Rs 0.35-40 paisa per unit.
However, Industry body continues to oppose the electricity hike on account of poor demand and supply in the state. “Hike in electricity will increase the extra burden on the Steel industry. If hike of Rs 0.40 per unit is implemented ,the cost will increase by Rs 300-350/MT of Ingot which will simultaneously increase the Re-bar prices” stated C.G Mini Steel Plant Association.
Chhattisgarh's present electricity tariff is among the lowest in the country prevailing at Rs 4.5-4.75 per unit which will increase to Rs 4.9-5.25 per unit with the renewal of tariff. Where as electricity charges in Punjab is at Rs 7.00 per unit, U.P Rs 6.5-6.75 per unit, Odisha Rs 5.25 per unit, and West Bengal is at Rs 4.25-4.5 per unit.
