The state government of Chhattisgarh recently announced to extend the iron ore mining lease of National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) based in Dantewada district. This decision relieved the public sector mining giants as it was set to expire in March 2020.
CM Bhupesh Baghel approved to extending the mining lease of NMDC after NMDC’S CMD Baijendra Kumar agreed to release INR 600 crore to the government for renewal.
Mr. Kumar appreciated the state government’s decision and described it as a big achievement for the NMDC.
NMDC is operating three highly-mechanised iron ore mine complexes. Two mine complexes are located in Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) namely Bailadila Iron Ore Mine, Kirandul Complex and Bailadila Iron Ore Mine, Bacheli Complex with yearly production of around 23 MnT. One mine complex located in Bellary (Karnataka) namely, Donimalai Iron Ore Mine produces 12 MnT per annum. NMDC has total iron ore production capacity of 43 MnTPA from all the existing mines.
NMDC produced 32.36 MnT iron ore in FY19. Out of this 23.39 MnT was produced from Chhattisgarh mines. Out of 23.39 MnT iron ore produced from its Chhattisgarh mines and rest 9 MnT from its mines in Karnataka.
