The Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has announced that it has crossed the 50 million tonnes cargo throughput during 2010-11. The figure has touched 50.02 million tonnes against 48.85 million tonnes handled last year.*
Of the total throughput, exports accounted for 40.84 million tonnes, while imports 9.18 million tonnes, registering an increase of 16 per cent, an all-time record, said Mr Pandiyan, Chairman of MPT
Giving a break-up, the Chairman said that iron ore constituted 40.35 million tonnes while coal/coke accounted for 6.93 million tonnes.
