As per recent vessel line up data maintained with SteelMint, a new bulk scrap import vessel is reported in India. A vessel named ‘Pelagiani’ carrying 33,000 MT ferrous scrap is expected to arrive at Mundra port on 2nd Oct’17.Upcoming vessel booked from USA and it will unload further 33,000 MT ferrous scrap to India.
Almost after a month’s time, a bulk import vessel is reported in India for ferrous scrap. Earlier to this, a bulk vessel named ‘Supernova’ carried 33,600 MT scrap from USA was reported in India in the first week of Sept’17.
Ferrous scrap imports to India have declined by 34 % during H1 CY17.India has imported 2.23 MnT ferrous scrap during H1 CY17 as imports were 3.36 MnT during the H1 in CY16.However, United States scrap exports to India jumped four times in Jun’17.United States supplied highest 0.08 MnT ferrous scrap in Jun’17 compared to 0.02 MnT in May’17 to India.
Imported ferrous scrap offers to India fell towards ending of Sept’17-
Imported ferrous scrap offers remained mostly stable during the first half of Sept’17 but fell sharply in the second half of the month Sept’17. Offers for HMS 1&2 for Middle East origin monthly averaged at USD 308/MT, CFR Nhava Sheva, in Sept’17. while in Aug’17 offers for HMS 1&2 for Middle East origin monthly averaged at USD 319/MT, CFR Nhava Sheva. Offers for Shredded from USA also showed similar trends in Sept’17.
Most of the Indian buyers have shown greater interest in the domestic scrap over imported throughout the month owing to price gap between them.
