India: BRPL evinces Interest in Partnering with SAIL

Bhubaneswar: Odisha based Pellet maker Brahmani River Pellets Limited (BRPL), a subsidiary of the London based Stemcor group has evinced interest in tying up with public sector steel maker SAIL for utilization of the unused low grade fines.

SAIL is looking for partners for utilizing its unused low grade Iron ore fines laying at several mines heads located in Odisha & Jharkhand. A senior official of SAIL has estimated that the amount of low grade fines stashed at the mines head would be about 10 MnT and out of this more than 3-4 MnT of fines laying in Odisha (Bolani mines) itself.

“Yes, we would surely like to explore the opportunity and we are open to partner with SAIL for the purpose”, said ND Rao, MD of BRPL.

BRPL, which has 4 MnT pa Iron pellet plant in Kalinganagar, Jajpur (Odisha) is planning to trim its capacity owing to low domestic demand and introduced of export duty on Iron pellet. The plant which was running at 50% capacity owing to raw material scarcity is also considering shutting down the plant.
