India: Bids in SAIL’s auction of defective steel shoot up by INR 1600/t

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) conducted an auction from its Central India based Bhilai Steel Plant for defective steel products on 22nd Apr. ’21.The bid prices for blooms shoot up by INR 1,600/t against the previous auction conducted on 31st March ’21.

A total quantity of 18,316 t of defective steel was put up for auction, in which 99.09% material was sold out and 166 t remained unsold.

Previously this auction was scheduled on 9th April but due to pandemic-related shutdowns in Chhattisgarh it was being postponed to 22nd April.

SteelMint’s billet index stood at Rs 41,900/- (Exw Raipur) on 22 April ’21.
