India: Bhushan Power and Steel’s iron ore sourcing down by 30% y-o-y in FY’21

Bhushan Power & Steel – a major integrated steel maker with a capacity of 3.5 mn t has recorded iron ore sourcing at 2.18 mn t in FY’21. The sourcing witnessed a fall of 30% y-o-y against 3.12 mn t in FY’20.

Bhushan power and steel recorded a drop of 44% in monthly dispatches to 89,314 t in Mar’21 against 158,208 t in Feb’21.

  •  Essel Mining was the largest supplier of iron ore to BPSL at 902,932 t in FY’21, against 994,866t in FY’20.
  • Sourcing from OMC went up to 555,257 t for the year against 491,530 t in FY’20.OMC has floated an expression of interest (EoI) for long-term linkage with state-based user industries for the supply of iron ore from its new mines Guali, Jilling-Langalota and Tiringpahar – all in Keonjhar district of the state.
  • Sourcing from Indrani Patnaik fell by 40% to 303,761 t in FY’21 as compared with 503,120t in FY’20.

BPSL insolvency proceedings came to an end after continuing for the last three-years. JSW Steel closed BPSL deal for INR 19,350 crores towards end Mar’21. With this acquisition, JSW has entered the Eastern India market. The company aims to increase its crude steel capacity to 45 mn t pa by 2030.
