India: BF slag dispatches to cement sector rise 16% y-o-y in FY26

Blast furnace (BF) slag dispatches to India’s cement industry by rail increased 16% y-o-y to 17.28 mnt in FY26, according to BigMint’s rake dispatch data. UltraTech Cement remained the largest buyer, increasing procurement by 49% y-o-y to 4.56 mnt, while Nuvoco Vistas’ receipts rose 18% y-o-y to 2.60 mnt. India’s BF slag generation also increased 6% y-o-y to 35.6 mnt, supported by higher hot metal production. With cement producers expanding Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) capacity, BF slag demand is expected to remain firm over the medium term.
