India: BCCL Revises Coking Coal Price for Non-Regulated Sector

Bharat Coking Coal Ltd, the subsidiary of CIL marked as the largest coking coal producer in the country, has revised the price of various coking coal grades, effective from 7 Sep’19.

The company has raised the ROM coal prices of Steel Grade-I (ST-I), Steel Grade-II (ST-II), and Washery Grade-I (W-I) coking coal by 5%; while prices of Washery grade coking coal ranging from (W-II to W-IV) have been increased by 15%.

The modification in the coal prices stands still specifically for non-regulated sector (other than power sector), for both Prime coking coal (PCC) and High Volatile Medium Coking (HVMC) specifications of coking coal.

The last price revision for PCC was carried out on 29th of Mar’19; while that for HVMC coal, price notification was issued back in 29 Sep’19.

It is pertaining to note that BCCL has discontinued price notification of PCC for sales to the power utilities. However, it was informed that price of HVMC coal for power utilities would remain unchanged from the previous term.

It was also stated that price of W-V and W-VI grade of coking coal would also remain unaltered from the previous revision carried on 7 Mar’19. Notably, these two grades of coal were newly introduced in addition to the existing four washery grades in FY20.

The pertinent coking coal prices as per the new price revision have been tabulated below:

BCCL has specified that the above prices are quoted for FOB or FOR basis, and are exclusive of other miscellaneous charges which include surface transportation charge, sizing and evacuation charges etc as per issued by CIL, and that levied by the government viz. Royalty, DMFT, NMET. Besides, taxes like GST, Compensation cess would be charges as applicable.

During FY19, BCCL’s coking coal production stood 24.51 MnT, which had accounted nearly 80% of the total coal volume, marked at 31.02 MnT.
