India: Basmati rice exports see divergent trends in Aug’25

India’s premium basmati rice exports showed contrasting trends y-o-y in Aug’25. Shipments to Europe surged by 77%, fuelled by rising demand for speciality, gluten-free, and low-glycaemic products. In contrast, exports to the Middle East fell 5%, affected by geopolitical tensions and logistical issues. Rising US tariffs weakened India’s edge over Pakistani basmati, encouraging exporters to focus on emerging markets.
