Most of the automobile manufacturers posted consistent gains with businesses slowly gaining fast track after a long lull due to the pandemic. The top carmakers Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor and Tata Motors reported robust sales growth in the domestic market last month as demand for personal mobility continued to drive the market. OEMs registered domestic sales of 3,39,859 units in Feb ’21 compared to 2,82,217 units sold in the same period last year. This translated to y-o-y growth of 20% in Feb’21.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited(MSIL)-India’s largest automaker, has reported positive sales growth of 8% y-o-y at 1,44,761 units last month as compared to 1,33,702 units in Feb’20.Despite production constraints endured due to the lack of semi-conductor supply, the surge in the company’s sales in Feb’21 was driven by the compact and utility vehicle segments.

Hyundai Motor India Limited(HMIL)-The South Korean carmaker sold 51, 600 units last month compared to 40,010 units in Feb’20, marking a 29% y-o-y growth. Hyundai has recorded healthy double-digit growth across segments, reflecting an all-round improvement in buyer sentiments. The company has been striving to drive resurgence in sales, thereby contributing to economic recovery and bringing its sales closer to pre-COVID level.

Tata Motors Limited-The domestic sales witnessed a growth at 58,473 units in Feb’21, up 54% y-o-y against 38,002 units sold in Feb’20. Additionally, it has recorded its highest ever passenger vehicle sales in nearly nine years, marking a phenomenal growth of 119% y-o-y last month.

Mahindra & Mahindra Limited-Despite huge impending orders of Thar, Mahindra was only able to deliver 15,391 cars last month, marking a growth of 41% y-o-y against 10,938 units in Feb ’20. However, the demand continues to remain buoyant for their range of SUVs and pick-ups and the company has a robust order pipeline.

Toyota Kirloskar Motors Private Limited-The Japanese automaker dispatched 14,075 units to dealerships thus witnessing a growth of 36% y-o-y in Feb’21. The company recorded its highest monthly sales in two and a half years. This was mainly due to the recent launch of the face-lifted premium SUV-Fortuner.

Renault-the French car brand, has posted 26% y-o-y growth in Feb’21. Volumes stood at 11,043 units against 8,784 units sold in Feb’20. The company has started dispatches of their latest model Kiger to its showrooms.

Honda Motor Company Limited(HMCL), has posted sales at 9,324 units in the past month, up 28% y-o-y against 7,269 units in Feb’20. However, the shortage of semi-conductor related parts impacted the company on the supply front last month, which limited production volume and dispatches for certain models.

Nissan Motor Company Limited-has registered the second-highest y-o-y growth of 312% and crossed 4,244 units for the second consecutive month in Feb’21 against 1,028 units in Feb’20.
