Steel major Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) recorded total iron ore and pellet sourcing at 1.21 million tonnes (mnt) in Jan’22, witnessing a decrease of 12%, m-o-m, as against 1.37 mnt in Dec’21.
The company’s captive iron ore sourcing from Odisha was recorded at 353,550 tonnes (t) in Jan compared to 374,333 t in Dec, marginally down by 5% m-o-m.
Iron ore procurement from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) falls in Jan: The steelmaker procured 683,000 t of iron ore in Jan from NMDC’s Bailadila mines in Chhattisgarh via slurry pipeline as against 848,000 t in Dec, a significant decrease of 19% m-o-m.
Sourcing from Odisha merchant mines rises in Jan: The company sourced 98,639 t of iron ore from Odisha’s merchant mines in Jan’22 compared to 55,711 t in the previous month.
Out of the total iron ore sourced from Odisha’s merchant mines in Jan, the maximum quantity was contributed by Essel Mining at 70,999 t followed by MGM Minerals and Rungta Mines at 14,270 t and 8,998 t, respectively.
That apart, the company recorded iron ore imports at 78,949 t for the month, down 10% as against 88,000 t in Dec, according to customs data maintained with SteelMint.
The company’s crude steel output stood at 0.6 mnt in Jan, largely stable as against 0.58 mnt in Dec.
