Following the government’s recent announcement that steel produced from both virgin iron ore as well as ferrous scrap will be used for national highway projects, Union Minster for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari has tweeted that the move will lead to enhancing the supplier base for government infra projects. This is likely to result in more competition and better price discovery, the minister has said. Steel, conforming to BIS standards, will be tested by NABL before approval.
