After a hiatus, Alang’s shipbreaking scrap prices opened at stable levels on 17 Aug’21: while melting scrap was assessed at INR 36,800-37,000/t, attachment scrap prices stood at INR 37,800-38,000/t ex-yard. Transactions recorded yesterday were negligible as a couple of association meetings were held to fix freight as well as labour charges (loading and segregation charges). It was decided that labour charges of INR 40/t would be borne by buyers. Freight charges were hiked by 12.5% to INR 405/t from Alang to Bhavnagar, which accounts for a major proportion of Alang’s scrap consumption being the nearest location from the sourcing point – a distance of just 50-52 km.
