Ship scrap

India: Alang shipbreaking scrap movement may resume from 12 Aug

Scrap movement at Alang’s shipbreaking yards may resume from tomorrow as the different associations have reached an amicable solution and the loading charge of INR 100/t has been waived off, as per latest reports. The loading charge started getting levied during the first wave of Covid-19 in order to provide monetary support to the workers, as the scrap volumes handled daily had shrunk to negligible levels amid the total lockdown. A lingering concern that hovers is the hike in transportation charges, although sources believe that this too would get resolved in a couple of days.
