India: Alang scrap ship imports rise by over 70%, m-o-m, in Mar’22

A total of 20 vessels with combined light displacement tonnage (LDT) of 154,819 were received at Alang for recycling in Mar’22, up 73% compared with 89,604 LDT in Feb. SteelMint data show that 49 ships were beached at Alang for demolition during Jan-Mar. The market saw increasing bids from end-buyers amidst tight domestic supply of scrap. Demand for vessels remained high in key recycling markets such as Bangladesh and Pakistan.
