India Accounts for 21% Chinese Met Coke Export in Dec’15

Surplus Met coke production in China during last month reflected directly in its export figures. The country’s export jumped by about 42% M-o-M.

China, the world’s top most Met coke exporter and producer, exported about 0.6 MnT of more coke in December against the preceding month. According to latest data released by China customs, the country exported about 1.45 MnT of coke in Dec’15 against 0.84 Nov’15.

As per latest data available from Chinese custom, the nation exported about 9.8 MnT of coke in CY15 against 8.5 MnT in CY14.

SteelMint assessed that India, one of the major importer of Chinese Met coke, imported about 0.3 MnT,. The nation imported about 21% of the total Met Coke export from China in Dec’15. However in context to yearly comparison, the country imported about 3 MnT of Met coke in CY15 against 3.8 MnT in CY14.

It is to be noted that in order to safeguard domestic coke producers, Indian Metallurgical Coke Manufacturers Association (IMCOM) on behalf of indigenous producers had applied for instigation of investigation for imposing anti-dumping duty on LAM coke exported from China and Australia. And reacting on the same, the center is likely to start investigation on anti-dumping duty on Met coke imports
