India: 2 NCL first mile connectivity projects to be unveiled soon

India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is set to inaugurate two pivotal first mile connectivity projects (FMC) by Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), on 29 February 2024. These projects signify a remarkable leap towards expediting coal evacuation processes while simultaneously addressing carbon emissions.

The focal points of this inauguration are the Jayant OCP CHP-SILO and the Dudhichua OCP CHP-SILO projects. The Jayant OCP CHP-SILO boasts a capacity of 15 million tonnes (mnt) per annum, while the Dudhichua OCP CHP-SILO stands at a capacity of 10 mnt/ annum.

Upon inauguration, these projects are poised to revolutionise coal evacuation by enhancing efficiency and sustainability, consequently reducing transportation time and costs.

The Ministry of Coal’s dedication to infrastructure development and sustainability shines through in such initiatives, which not only boost productivity and profitability but also significantly contribute to India’s energy security. PM Modi’s involvement underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to prioritising eco-friendly coal initiatives.

Previously, PM Modi inaugurated three pivotal first mile connectivity projects of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Chhattisgarh. Notably, the Dipka OCP coal handling plant, with an annual handling capacity of 25 mnt, emerges as a significant milestone in fortifying coal infrastructure.
