Power plants running on imported coal will have to operate at full capacity till September to meet rising demand for electricity, as per the ministry. Peak demand in summer is expected to hit 260 GW, well above last year’s record of 243 GW. This Act empowers the government to instruct power generating companies to operate and maintain generating stations during exceptional circumstances.
