Indian Metals and Ferro Alloys Limited received a green signal from the Odisha State Pollution Control Board to resume their mining operation.
A source privy to the information revealed that the pollution control board has reinstated the Consent to Operate with immediate effect on Friday 23rd June’17.
Previously, both the mines were suspended in course of routine inspection as it violated the norms of air and water pollution in the region. Moreover, it further revoked the Consent to Operate, once before when IMFA had to head towards court of law.
However, this time IMFA was awarded the Consent to Operate (valid up to 31st March’21), with immediate effect and is suppose to resume their operations from their B-Shift working time.
The two mines produced over 0.43 million tonnes (MnT) of chrome ore in 2016 out of the total chrome ore production of almost 4 MnT in India, according to data maintained by SteelMint.
With Ferro Chrome prices expected to rebound soon, IMFA might find itself to be in an advantageous position to cover for its losses during suspension period.
