The Coal and Power Minister: Piyush Goyal said that the government has cleared a plan to allow public sector units and private companies to swap coal allocations. This is aimed at enabling power companies to source coal from the nearest available location that in turn will improve efficiency.
The coal swapping will be allowed for power companies initially, but it will be allowed for other sectors later.
In a statement issued by the Power Ministry, it was said that modalities for use of transferred coal in Independent Power Producers’ (IPP) generating stations will be separately issued.
