Goan Iron Ore (ROM) Production Touches 7 MnT in FY16

FY16 turned out to be optimistic for Goa in terms of fresh iron ore production. Iron ore mining companies in Goa resumed iron ore production towards the end of Sep’15 following which state’s iron ore production witnessed an increase.

As per the provisional figures received to SteelMint, ROM (run of mine) production in Goa was recorded at 7.3 MnT in FY16. ROM refers to the unprocessed state of iron ore which comprises of impurities. And also ROM is not 100% saleable commodity. Hence is to be processed further for converting it into saleable form.

However, production of processed ore (lump and fines) was registered around 1.78 MnT. Out of which Vedanta produced 1.45 MnT.

Vedanta produced 2.2 MnT saleable iron ore from Goa in FY16

The mining conglomerate-Vedanta was the first company to resume iron ore mining operations in the state. In Vedanta’s production release ending Mar’16, it reported that production of saleable iron ore from its mines in Goa was 2.2 MnT in FY16 and sales were recorded at 2.2 MnT which includes 1.4 MnT of traded ore purchased from the e-auctions.
