In a recent meeting held on 05 Apr’17 between iron ore mine lease holders and Goa Directorate of Mines & Geology (DMG) to discuss production and transportation details for FY18.
DMG explained the road map for mineral production in the state of Goa for FY18 and asked co-operation from the mining industry for achieving the targeted production subject to enhancement by Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.
They informed that the Apex Court is considering enhancement of production limit in the state of Goa which is presently at 20 MnT pa. Production enhancement has also been recommended by the Expert Committee appointed by the court. Hence it is the duty of department & the industry to equitably distribute the production in 8 months of the financial year as mining activities are not carried out during monsoon season (Jun-Sept).
In view of the above, DMG have set a target of 8 MnT of production before commencement of monsoon season and asked the lease holders representatives to give details of the quantity which they are able to produce so that the targeted production can be achieved before the end of May’17.
Iron ore production in Goa increased sharply in FY17 – According to the data released by Ministry of Mines, Goa’s iron ore output during Apr-Dec’16 was recorded at 4.05 MnT compared to 0.28 MnT in the previous fiscal. Increased production from miners resulted in increased production in FY17.
