Goa Iron ore exports fall down by 25% in Oct

Shipments of iron ore from
India's largest port, Mormugao in Goa state, fell by a quarter in
October to 2.83 million tonnes, as a slump in global prices and high costs made
shipments unprofitable, a port source said on Friday.

“Export of iron ore is down
due to internal transport problems which is stopping the movement of
goods,” said the official with Mormugao Port Trust.

Exports of iron ore from Goa,
India's biggest shipper fell by 15.4% to reach 14.71 million tonnes in the
first seven months of the fiscal year.

A price fall on global markets
since September and high costs including freight duties have dented exports
further. But there are currently signs of a pick-up in prices which could
help exporters in November.
