Global Thermal Coal prices higher; market uncertain

The two most active thermal coal suppliers – Indonesia and
South Africa have unique tales to tell which substantiates as reasons for
erratic movements in thermal coal prices in the global market.

Indonesian miners are busy sorting out price issues in the
local markets with loading activities on hold. According to a trader based in
West Coast of India, “this is an artificial price push being applied by the big
miners in Indonesia. Some momentum in the prices is also a function of Chinese buying
that restarted on Monday. Indonesian issues may take at least until end of this
week to sort.”

South African prices have also witnessed a slight uptick owing
to diverted demand from Latin America and Europe who use Colombian material. Mining
workers in Colombia are on strike for the last 2 weeks demanding higher pay.
