According to the latest data issued by ISSF (International Stainless Steel Forum), world’s stainless steel output has registered an increase of 5.3% y-o-y basis from 45.8 MnT in 2016 to 48.1 MnT in 2017.
Out of the world’s total stainless steel output, percentage share of China stands to be highest followed by Asia (without China and South Korea), Europe and U.S.
China’s stainless steel production in 2017 is recorded at 25.8 MnT against 24.9 MnT in 2016 an increase of 3.6% y-o-y basis.
Excluding China and South Korea, rest of Asia’s stainless steel output stood at 8.03 MnT, a surge of 4.5% against 7.7 MnT in 2016.
In case of Europe, there was a marginal increase of 1.3% in its global stainless steel output from 7.3 MnT in 2016 to 7.4 MnT in 2017.
The highest increase in stainless steel output was observed in case of U.S. whose output surged from 2.5 MnT in 2016 to 2.8 MnT in 2017, a leap of 11% y-o-y basis.
Stainless steel production in Russia, Brazil, South Korea, South Africa and Indonesia totalled 4.15 million tonnes in 2017, up from 3.4 million tonnes in 2016.
According to reports, the global crude stainless steel production is projected to grow by 4% y-o-y to 52.1 MnT in 2018.
