Germany keeps thermal power capacity as reserve over uncertainty in gas supplies

Germany plans to place about 10 GW of its coal-fired power capacity, which was supposed to be shut down, as reserve, as per the Ministry of Economics. The decision has come as Russia stopped gas supplies to Germany. The latter has reduced its share of gas imports from Russia to 35% as against 55% earlier after the Ukraine crisis and has decided to phase out Russian oil and coal imports.
