Germany Iron Ore Import Down by 11% in H1 2016

Trade statistics released by European Union shows that Germany iron ore imports significantly drop by 11.6% in H1 2016 as compared to H1 2015.

In H1 2016, the country imported around 18.9 MnT iron ore as compared to 21.4 MnT in H1 2015.

In Jun’16, the country imported 1.60 MnT iron ore as compared to 3.20 MnT in Jun’15. Imports drop down significantly by 50% Y-o-Y. However, on M-o-M basis, iron ore imports drop down by 58.7% when compared with May’16.

The non-agglomerated iron ore (lumps and fines) imports in H1 2016 was registered at 10.62 MnT, decreased by 24.1% over the previous year. In H1 2015, the country imported 14.01 MnT iron ore. The agglomerated iron ore (pellets and concentrates) imports in H1 2016 was registered at 6.7 MnT, decreased sharply by 8.2% over the previous year. 

The largest exporter of iron ore to Germany during H1 2016 was Netherlands with 8.88 MnT iron ore. The other key countries who exported iron ore to Germany were Brazil (2.29 MnT), Sweden (2.92 MnT), Canada (1.34 MnT), South Africa (0.53 MnT), Ukraine (0.52 MnT), Russia (0.23 MnT) etc.
