Freight Revenue by Railway Goes up by 8.41%  during Q1 FY14

Commodity revenue had been the foremost source of earning by the Indian railway. The Railways have earned a sum of  Rs. 22795.5 crore as revenue  from commodity-wise freight traffic during 1st April to 30th June 2013. As of last year,  the earning from commodity revenue was Rs. 21027.9 crore during the same period. The revenue earning of railway has witnessed an increase of 8.41%. Railways have carried 256.79 million tons of commodity-wise freight traffic during April-June 2013.  As of last year, it has carried 244.8 million tons during the same period. With this railway has incurred an increase of 4.89% in revenue earning.  

 The railway has augmented a sum of Rs 7471.30 crore from commodity-wise freight traffic during the month of June 2013. The railway has earned a sum of Rs 3360.90 crore  from transportation of 42.33 million tons of coal which was followed by earning of Rs 668.91 crore from  the export of 9.82 million tons of iron ore for steel plants and for other domestic user. Railway earned  Rs 660.35 crore from  transportation of 8.23 million tons of cement followed by Rs 563.70 crore from  transportation of 4.15 million tons of food grains, Rs 447.67 crore from 3.60 million tons of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs 473.48 crore from 2.96 million tons of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants, Rs 378.40 crore from 3.77 million tons of fertilizers, Rs 120.01 crore from 1.49 million tonnes of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs 356.28 crore from 3.48 million tons by container service and Rs 441.60 crore from 5.12 million tons of other goods.
