FOB met coal prices remain strong on concerns over vessel queues in Australia

Australian Premium Low Vol coking coal prices have been spiraling upward since the start of this month, partially due to the emergence of long vessel queues at various shipping ports in Queensland, Australia.

In China, buying activity has-been subdued due to concerns over the ongoing China-US trade war.

The Indian market has quietened due to the onset of monsoon season.

Furthermore, Indian end-users are anticipating a correction for premium hard coking coal prices in the fob Australia segment.

Price Assessments

The latest price for the Premium Low Vol grade is assessed at around USD 185/MT FOB Australia, up USD 2.81/MT from the average price of USD 182.19 in the previous week (6-12 Aug’18).

Latest import offers for the 64 Mid-Vol HCC grade are assessed at around USD 158.80/MT FOB Australia.
