Ferrous scrap exports from U.S. up by 16% Y-o-Y in January

New Year, so far as the ferrous scrap exports are
concerned, got off to a fast start for U.S. ferrous scrap exporters. With
stronger demand from Turkey, South Korea, Malaysia and India helped U.S.
ferrous scrap export volume to move up by 16 percent from last year.

Turkey
remained the top importer of U.S. ferrous scrap. The largest offshore buyer of
U.S. scrap, Turkey, imported 369,716 MT of ferrous scrap in January i.e. up by 66
percent from last year in January. Turkish buyers imported 222,414 MT of ferrous
scrap in the opening month of 2011.

Taiwanese
hold the No. 2 position in the list of importers. Demand for ferrous scrap from
Taiwanese grew by 3 percent to 260,055 MT in January 2012.
