Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) on Thursday reported a fall in sales, Sales turnover stood at Rs 11,976 crore (Rs 11,970 crore). In terms of volumes, SAIL sold 2.62 million tonnes of steel (2.8 mt) in 2nd quarter 2012-13
SAIL chairman Mr C S Verma blamed depression in market for poor sales, although it will improve during festive season he added.
“In the international market, prices have gone up by $5-10 per tonne. SAIL prices are stable. I do not see any decline in prices. This is because iron ore prices are also firming up,’’ Verma said.Demand always remains lean in the first two quarter of the year, he added.
Current offers for 2.5 mm HR coil stands at around Rs 33,500/t (Ex Works), where as imported offers from China stands at $580-590/t CFR India.
