E-auction for Mineral Transport in Odisha Likely to Take Place in Oct’15-Sources

Market sources mentioned that Odisha govt is likely to conduct the e-auction for transportation of minerals on 01 Oct’15. DoM Odisha, with the help of MSTC, will conduct reverse bidding auction, where the transport contract will be awarded to the one who bids the lowest.

“Despite state govt. fixing ceiling charges of mineral transportation in six mineral bearing states, and fixing different slabs for mineral transportation beyond & within 100 kms, some transporters are still charging comparatively higher local freight (INR 400/MT). The e-auction will bring transparency in the process and transporters will not be able to charge more than the specific local freight”, shared a market participant based in eastern India.

Last week, Deputy Director of Mines (DDM) Koira mining circle in Sundergarh district of Odisha had issued a letter to all lessees and licensees in the circle to ensure fair trade practices in transportation of minerals. He had also instructed that in case of any obstruction in mineral transportation by strikes by any association of transporters, loaders & tippers, the same should be intimated. Such obstruction activities will lead to cancellation of registration of the transport agencies involved.
