Declining Prices Catalyses Non-coking Coal Import to India

India, the 3rd largest coal importer globally, imported 14.9 MnT of coal in Dec’15; the highest quantity during last 5 months.

SteelMint assessed that non-coking coal import to India increased by 14.5% in Dec’15 against the preceding month. However, it fell by 16% Y-o-Y. The country imported about 14.94 MnT of non-coking coal in Dec’15 against 12.4 MnT of the preceding month.

Leading non-coking coal exporters in Dec’15

Indonesia and South Africa were the major exporters to India in the month. Indonesia exported about 10.9 MnT of non-coking coal, registering a growth of 21% against the previous month. Meanwhile, South Africa exported about 2.7 MnT in the duration.

Leading discharging ports

Mundra and Krishnapatnam ports were the major destinations for holding non-coking coal import in the month. They received about 2.8 MnT and 1.5 MnT non-coking coal in Dec’15 against 1.9 MnT and 1.3 MnT in Nov’15 respectively.
