Commercial miners could add 15 mn t to annual output: Coal Minister

India’s private companies could start developing coal mines with an annual capacity of 15 mn t by the end of this fiscal, Coal Minster Pralhad Joshi said, thereby ending decades of CIL monopoly. The government’s move to allow commercial coal mining has opened up an additional 225 mn t of reserves, essential for import substitution of thermal coal.
