Amid rising coal demand in Europe and a global coal supply crunch emanating from the geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine, the Colombian government has initiated talks with domestic coal producers to increase exports. After declining in 2020, Colombia’s coal output rose to 59.6 mn t in 2021, up 21% y-o-y. The country is expected to produce 66 mnt of coal this year.
