Prices of Coking Coal and Met Coke in China have move upwards in a quick succession after the announcement of the coal import ban from North Korea. China has banned all coal imports from North Korea, with effect from last Sunday, for the entire 2017, in response to the recent missile test by the Korean nation.
In the Dalian Commodity Exchange of China, Met Coke futures have risen by 1.3% to Yuan 1,709.5/MT; and Coking Coal futures also rose by 1.3% to Yuan 1,250/MT.
However, there has been no impact on the export price for Met Coke. Export offers for the 62% CSR Met Coke are, today, quoted at around USD 257/MT FoB China.
North Korea had been the largest Anthracite Coal supplier to China. In 2016, 22.48 MnT of Anthracite Coal was exported by North Korea to China. The import volume was 14.5% higher than that in 2015.
