Coking Coal import into China in Nov’16 was marginally lower by 0.08% at 4.75 MnT, according to the latest data released by China Customs.
In contrast, import of the coal variant during the Jan-Nov’16 period into that country was slightly higher by 0.10%, at 53.37 MnT, than the corresponding period of the previous year.
Remarkably, import during Nov’16 from Mongolia was higher, at 3 MnT, than that from Australia, at 1.26 MnT. But, the trend during the Jan-Nov’16 period was the opposite, with import from Australia, at 24.70 MnT, higher than the import from Mongolia, at 20.47 MnT.
The higher import from Mongolia than Australia during Nov’16 seems to be due to the significant price differentials. The average price during the month in Mongolia was at USD 50.76/MT, whereas, the average price in Australia was at USD 176.73/MT.
