Coal provides highest freight revenue for Indian Railways in April

The Indian Railways earned Rs 5490.93 cr from as freight revenue for transporting commodites.* in April 2011 and coal accounted topped the charts by providng RS 2278.14 cr revenue. Indian Railways carried 37.37 mn tonnes of coal in the month of April.

 

Iron ore accounted for Rs. 730.42 crore from 9.02 million tonnes of iron ore for exports, steel plants and for other domestic user, Rs. 560.50 crore from 9.03 million tonnes of cement, Rs. 436.22 crore from 4.09 million tonnes of foodgrains, Rs. 286.44 crore from 3.34 million tonnes of petroleum oil and lubricant (POL), Rs. 289.72 crore from 2.59 million tonnes of Pig iron and finished steel from steel plants and other points, Rs. 161.13 crore from 2.28 million tonnes of fertilizers, Rs. 91.26 crore from 1.10 million tonnes of raw material for steel plants except iron ore, Rs. 265.23 crore from 3.02 million tonnes by container service and Rs. 391.87 crore from 5.68 million tonnes of other goods. According to a recent official statement, Indian Railways had carried 832.75 million tonnes of revenue earning freight traffic during April 2010-February 2011. The freight carried shows an increase of 29.25 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 803.50 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 3.64 per cent.
