>>Coal imports in Japan during Mar’18 were at around 15.6 MnT, depicting a fall of around 5.7% over the imports in Mar’17. During the Jan-mar’18 period, the country had imported around 47.1 MnT of coal and that was also down by around 3.6% year-on-year.
>>The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) has urged the Pakistan Government to withdraw the extant 5% Import Duty on coal to benefit the consuming industries, including cement and power. The request was made on account of the devaluation of the Pakistani Rupee against the USD by more than 10%.
>>Thermal Coal production by the Australian coal miner—Universal Coal—during the Jan-Mar’18 quarter stood at 1.98 MnT, which was up from the production of 1.95 MnT during the preceding quarter.
