SHANGDONG PROVINCE TO SEE REDUCTION IN COAL CONSUMPTION
Stringent measures for lowering coal consumption at the Shandong province in China were proposed recently.
According to the proposed measures, the relevant authorities proposed for reducing all coal consumptions above 27.06 MnT within the province. The Shandong Provisional Development and Reform Commission will focus on key industries for curbing coal consumption. Among the initiatives, it plans to shut down the Jinan Iron and Steel Company, and also, plans to reduce steel and pig iron productions by 5.27 MnT and 1.43 MnT respectively.
Besides, the authority also has decided to eliminate all outdated coal-fired power units in the province.
VALE ACHIEVES HIGHER Q2 2017 COAL
Global mining major—Vale—produced 3 MnT of coal during Q2 2017 that was up by 24.11% over the production in Q1 2017, at 2.4 MnT.
The production during the second quarter of 2017 also was higher by 100% against the production in Q2 2016, at 1.5 MnT.
In the second quarter of the current year, the company produced around 2 MnT of Coking Coal, and that was higher by 25% over the production of approximately 1.6 MnT in the first quarter of 2017. On a year-on-year basis, the Q2 2017 Coking Coal production exceeded the Q2 2016 production, at around 0.8 MnT, by 150%.
Non Coking Coal production during Q2 2017 was at around 0.98 MnT, which exceeded the production of around 0.8 MnT in Q1 2017 by 23.1%; and surpassed the production of approximately 0.44 MnT by 122% in Q2 2016.

Coal stocks at the major ports in China have increased—signifying the imports going up in that country. According to the latest information received, the following is the latest status of coal stocks at the major ports in that country.
